ROBERT MURAT (33) year 2007
Robert James Queriol Eveleigh Murat was born on November 20, 1973. Officers raided the villa of Briton Robert Murat who lives just 100 yards away from the apartment where the McCanns were staying. Murat lives with his 71-year-old mother, Jenny, in Casa Liliana. Police removed boxes of potential evidence for analysis, video tapes, two computers and at least one mobile phone. Mr Murat's car was also searched by forensics teams. Mr Murat, was formally classed as an ''arguido'' - or suspect - for the first time. Under Portuguese law, arguido status recognises a person formally as a suspect and gives the person more rights as a witness - the person has the right to remain silent during questioning, and can call a lawyer.

JENNY MURAT (71) Year 2007
Jenny Murat, a retired nurse, at lunchtime on Friday 4th May set up a roadside stall in the middle of Praia da Luz, decked with posters in Portuguese asking people to come forward with information. She lives at Casa Liliana with her son, Robert.

DAWN AND SOFIA MURAT
Dawn Murat married Robert in 1996, but the couple split two years ago. They have a four-year-old blonde daughter, who apparently looks very similar to Madeleine. Robert and Dawn moved to live with Murat’s mother in the Villa Liliana 18 months ago. However after disagreements about settling in Portugal, Dawn returned home to Norfolk and now works for Fenland council. They are now divorced. Dawn was twice visited by police, who took away pictures of Sofia and asked Dawn if she had ever caught Murat looking at porn. On 15th May, the Daily Mail reported that, in Norfolk, two women leave the house owned by Robert Murat's estranged wife Dawn with police, both carrying children hidden under blankets.

LUIS ANTONIO AND MICHAELA WALZUCH (47 and 33 respectively) Year 2007
Mr Murat's blonde German girlfriend, Michaela Walzuch, and her former husband, Portuguese pool cleaner Luis Antonio, were also questioned and released. On 18th November Michaela Walzuch was named in The Daily Mail as the person seen by a witness handing over a child wrapped in a blanket on 5th May in Central Portugal. This witness reported the sighting to Metodo3 who passed on the information to the PJ.

SALLY AND RALPH EVELEIGH
Sally and Ralph Eveleigh run the Salsalito bed and breakfast in the village of Burgau, near Praia da Luz. The Salsalito is described as "set in its own grounds, just 2 minutes by car to the charming fishing village of Burgau, 5 minutes to Praia da Luz and 15 minutes to the historical town of Lagos with its fabulous shops and marina. Faro is 1½ hours away". Ralph Eveleigh is Jenny's brother (Robert Murat's Uncle) and Sally Anne Eveleigh is Ralph's daughter (Robert Murat's cousin). Ralph, an engineer by trade, also is part owner of the famous Beach Bar Burgau and Smuggler's Bar. Sally managed a designer shop in London's Bond Street, and has been, for 16 years, running her boutique in R. Joaquim Teixeira C Com Luztur - lj 2 Praia da Luz. The British police, in collaboration with PJ, searched their premises and seized their cars during the July re-investigation.

SERGEY MALINKA (22) year 2007
Sergey Malinka, who helped Murat, set up a website, was picked up in a police swoop on his parents' flat in Praia da Luz. Mr Malinka, who moved to Portugal from Moscow seven years ago, was taken to Portimao police station and questioned overnight. Mr Malinka was not under suspicion but was understood to be helping police with their investigation.

FRANCISCO PAGARETE (32) Year 2007
Mr Pagarete is Robert Murat's lawyer. He describes Murat as "his friend and client"; he invited Robert Murat to his wedding in August. Francisco Pagaret accused Madeleine's parents of "strange" behaviour, referring to the fact that they had left the three-year-old alone in their holiday apartment.

TUCK PRICE
Tuck Price has been acting as a spokesman for Jenny and Robert Murat since their house was searched on Monday, May 14, and has known the family for more than 10 years. On 2nd June, the Dail Mail also described him as "Murat's gay American designer friend. He has British passport which can be seen in the second photograph. Tuck Price described Sergey Malinka as a "sweet kid" who had set up Murat's website.

MATTHEW FAZACKERLEY (31) Year 2007
Matthew Fazakerley works with Sergey Malinka as a Project Organiser for Island expeditions on the boat company www.corlettmaritima.com, and runs a chain of computer offices with Malinka. He posts on www.belowtopsecret.com and blog.abovetopsecret.com as Optimus Fett (and has posted a picture, allegedly of himself - shown below). Originally he comes from Manchester but lived in Portugal's Algarve region for 10 years. He recently lived in Lagos, Portugal, where the boat "Naomi Corlett" was berthed. In August, he posted on the "above top secret" blog that he has returned to Manchester.
