The third annual Miles for Missing People event took part in Regent’s
Park this weekend supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery, to raise
vital funds to help the charity provide a lifeline for missing people in
the UK and support their families, friends and loved ones.
ITV This Morning’s Gloria Hunniford and Missing People Chief
Executive Martin Houghton-Brown started the 10k and 2 mile Fun
Run, which had runners passing the starting line smiling from ear to ear
despite the soggy conditions. Children’s TV presenter Kirsten O’Brien
also sounded the starting horn for the kid’s race, which generated huge
excitement with young participants, whose involvement was touching for
hundreds of supportive onlookers.
Many of Missing People’s family representatives attended, including
Nicki Durbin, Rachel Elias, Kate and Gerry McCann, and Peter Lawrence,
all of whom know the heartache of searching for a missing loved one.
Speaking ahead of the third anniversary of his daughter Claudia
Lawrence’s disappearance, Peter said: "No day is good, especially this
weekend, but meeting other families really does help.”
“The tremendous support generated by Miles for Missing People is
invaluable in helping people to cope with the consequences of someone in
their life going missing, maximising the chances of finding them."
Rock Choir added to the special atmosphere with 600 singers performing
before and after the race. Their enthusiasm, passion and positivity was
infectious and uplifting.
