Madeleine
McCann case:
Truck driver accused of kidnapping being questioned
Praia da Luz, Portugal - Investigators looking into the Madeleine McCann
disappearance are now attempting to determine if a Portuguese truck
driver facing charges of child kidnapping had anything to do with
Madeleine's case.
Little Madeleine -- who was about to turn
four
-- vanished on May 3, 2007 while on vacation with her family in
Praia da Luz,
Portugal. Her parents,
Kate and Gerry McCann, had been
dining
with friends and left the girl and her
twin siblings
in the
villa
where the family was staying. When the McCanns returned, Madeleine was
gone.
In March 1998, Rui Pedro Teixeira Mendonca, 11, disappeared from his
home town of Lousado. Police in the area believe he was abducted while
walking home from school and then taken to a prostitute who was paid to
have sex with him, according to the Daily Express.
Later, unconfirmed reports indicated the boy had been seen in Paris at
Disneyland with a middle-aged man -- which meant he could have been
moved to the area by a gang of pedophiles, the Express reports.
The
private
detectives working on Madeleine's case are now tracing the
steps of the accused kidnapper over the past 13 years.
According to the Express, the man admitted three years ago that he was
with the Rui on the day he went missing and said, 'As far as Rui Pedro
is concerned, the thing I want most in the world is that he appears' I
never denied being with him. But I never saw him again after we parted
company that day and I haven't a clue what happened to him.'
