12th Anniversary of Madeleine’s Abduction (3rd May 2019)
It’s that
time of year again. As much as we’d like to fast forward the
first couple of weeks of May, there’s no getting around it.
The months
and years roll by too quickly; Madeleine will be sixteen this
month. It’s impossible to put into words just how that makes us
feel. There is comfort and reassurance though in knowing that
the investigation continues and many people around the world
remain vigilant.
Thank you to
everyone who continues to support us and for your ongoing hope
and belief.
For as long
as it takes…………………

Statement by
Kate and Gerry McCann regarding Netflix programme “The
Disappearance of Madeleine McCann”
Start
‘We are aware
that Netflix are planning to screen a documentary in March 2019
about Madeleine’s disappearance. The production company told us
that they were making the documentary and asked us to
participate. We did not see and still do not see how this
programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly
given there is an active police investigation, could potentially
hinder it.
Consequently,
our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme.
We will not
be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding
this programme.’

Christmas
2018
24-12-2018
We couldn’t let a Christmas go by without
passing on a warm ‘thank you’ to all our supporters for the kind
and continuing good wishes,
especially at this very busy time of year.
We miss
Madeleine dearly. Christmas will never be the same without her,
but we will continue to
make the best of what we have.
The
investigation is ongoing and our hope remains.
May 2019 be a peaceful and positive one for us all.
Thank you.

May 2018 – 11th Anniversary of Madeleine’s
Abduction
It gets harder to know what to say or write as
each anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction approaches then
passes. Life is full and busy which helps but Madeleine is still
missing and she is still dearly missed. Information continues to
come in (incredible as it may seem after so long, although we
are grateful for that) and work goes on. Perseverance and hope
remain.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us
and wish us, especially Madeleine, well. After eleven years such
warmth and persisting solidarity is truly remarkable, and at the
same time a real tonic and boost to our spirit. We couldn’t bear
for Madeleine to be forgotten or to become just a ‘story’. She
is a real person and still our ‘little girl’ and as we always
have, we will endeavour to do whatever it takes to find her.
Thank you so much for staying with us on this mission.

24 April,
2017 - Ten Years
Ten years-
there's no easy way to say it, describe it, accept it. I
remember when Madeleine first disappeared I couldn’t even begin
to consider anything in terms of years. Shawn Hornbeck abducted
and kept hidden for over four years, Natascha Kampusch for over
eight years. I couldn't go there. And now here we
are...Madeleine, our Madeleine- ten years.
Most days are
similar to the rest - another day. May 3rd 2017 - another day.
But ten years - a horrible marker of time, stolen time.
We are
bracing ourselves for the next couple of weeks. It's likely to
be stressful and painful and more so given the rehashing of old
'stories', misinformation, half-truths and downright lies which
will be doing the rounds in the newspapers, social media and
'special edition' TV programmes.
Media
appearances are draining and on occasion, unhelpful to the only
thing we want, finding Madeleine. They need to have a purpose.
We could spend all our time and energy trying to defend
ourselves by correcting inaccuracies and lies, but then we would
have no strength left to look for Madeleine, look after our
other children and to live our life.
I truly hope
that those reporting on the 'story' over the next couple of
weeks will have a conscience. Even if little consideration for
Gerry and me is shown, they will at least bear in mind the
effect such unfounded and unwarranted negativity could have on
our other children - and of course Madeleine.
Thankfully,
there is an active police investigation to try and find
Madeleine and bring her abductor to justice. There are no new
appeals that the police wish to make at this moment in time and
so we are keeping any media involvement marking this unwanted
milestone to a minimum.
The two
themes that seem most appropriate to me as we reach this ten
year mark are perseverance and gratitude: We will go on, try our
hardest, never give up and make the best of the life we have.
We consider
ourselves immensely fortunate to have received the love,
solidarity and support from so many kind and decent people over
the last decade. There have been many challenges and low points
along the way but the warmth, encouragement and positivity we
have experienced from the ‘quiet majority’ has undoubtedly
sustained us and maintained our faith in human goodness. And
while that is there, there will always be hope.
Thank you so
much from all of our family.

Supreme Court Ruling
What we have
been told by our lawyers is obviously extremely disappointing.
It is eight
years since we brought the action and in that time the landscape
has dramatically changed, namely there is now a joint
Metropolitan Police-Policia Judiciaria investigation which is
what we've always wanted.
The police in
both countries continue to work on the basis that there is no
evidence that Madeleine has come to physical harm.
We will, of
course, be discussing the implications of the Supreme Court
ruling with our lawyers in due course.

Christmas marks our tenth without Madeleine. There are no
words really.
Suffice to say, we will try and make it as
happy a family occasion as possible despite being inevitably
tinged with pain and longing. The year ahead too is one
which we never could have believed or contemplated we would
have to face.
Thank you so
much to everyone who hasn’t forgotten about Madeleine, for all
of your help and continued prayers. The support we continue to
have from so many people, friends and strangers, will we’re

us know too.
We hope your

As yet another anniversary comes around, we'd like to thank all
our supporters for your continued help and commitment in the
search for Madeleine, and the hope for her safe return.
It has been a
very long time but the investigation continues, information is
still forthcoming and our hope and resolve continue. Until we
have answers, until there is news (real news!), there will
always be hope and we will continue to do everything we can to
help find Madeleine.

Regarding Libel Case
We are
disappointed with today’s ruling from the Portuguese
Appellate Court. As we have said in the past, this action
has never been about money. It has always been focused on
the effects of the libels on our other children and the
damage that has been done to the search for Madeleine.
We will
continue to defend ourselves against this libel and the
search for our daughter. We will be appealing to the
Portuguese Supreme Court.
Madeleine
is still missing and we will do everything we can to get her
home.

Christmas
2015
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all our supporters. Your compassion and help
has once again spurred us on through another year and never
fails to astound us.
We really appreciate how lucky we are to
have such amazing support behind us. Thank you.
It is our 9th
Christmas without Madeleine. As always, she is very much on our
mind and in our hearts and Christmas preparations. We have not
lost hope that we may get to celebrate another Christmas with
her. If anything can drive us on, that most definitely will.
This year has
blown over so quickly. Life is very busy, which is probably a
good thing, but it does mean the months don’t seem to last long!
Thankfully, the police investigation has made progress over the
year. Whilst it is never as much or as speedy as we, or the
police would like, we are moving in the right direction and
that’s the positive. Patience and perseverance are virtues which
we’ve acquired in abundance over recent years - another
positive!
2015 has also
been a full and successful year for the charity ‘Missing People’
which is great news for many of those missing and their families
too. I loved taking part in the charity’s ‘500 mile Cycle
Challenge’ in June and would encourage anyone who is interested
to give it a go next year. It is such a fulfilling and
worthwhile experience on many levels and it really makes a
difference for missing loved ones and their families. Thank you
for all the support given to the charity this year.
Thank you
also for all the lovely Christmas cards we’ve received. It gives
us a lot of pleasure and comfort to sit down together and share
your kind messages, with the reassurance that Madeleine has not
been forgotten.
And so a new
year approaches….new energy, new opportunities, new hope.
Wishing you
all a very happy, healthy and peaceful 2016.

We would like
to thank all the staff from Operation Grange for the meticulous
and painstaking work that they have carried out over the last
four and a half years.
The scale and
difficulty of their task has never been in doubt. We are
reassured that the investigation to find Madeleine has been
significantly progressed and the MPS has a much clearer picture
of the events in PDL leading up to Madeleine’s abduction in
2007.
Given that
the review phase of the investigation is essentially completed,
we fully understand the reasons why the team is being reduced.
We would also like to thank the Home Office for continuing to
support the investigation.
Whilst we do
not know what happened to Madeleine, we remain hopeful that she
may still be found given the ongoing lines of enquiry.

May, 2015 - Update Eight
years.
There's no gentle way of putting it. Whilst most days, weeks and months
are fairly similar –
Madeleine is missed every day – this time of year cuts deep as
it's a harsh reminder of time having passed and precious years
with Madeleine lost.
Without a
shadow of doubt, the love, support, help and prayers that we
continue to receive from so many people, in spite of the years
which have gone by, encourages us, maintains our hope and lifts
our spirits.
We are also
buoyed and reassured by the unwavering commitment and continued
progress being made in the investigation. We are really grateful
to the Metropolitan Police team for their conscientiousness,
patience, consideration shown to us and above all, their will to
find Madeleine and determine what has happened.
Cooperation
with and from the Portuguese Police has, and still is, vital to
the success of the investigation. We are very appreciative of
the joint working relationship established between the two
forces.
Next month,
I will be raising awareness again of the charity Missing People,
and the many children who go missing every year. One child is
too many. I will be taking part in a 500 mile charity cycle from
Edinburgh to London and during this journey, I am hoping to
promote the UK's Child Rescue Alert (CRA) system. If you can
help me, please do by either donating at www.justgiving.com/KateMcCann/
and/or signing up to the CRA at www.childrescuealert.org.uk.
We've always
promised ourselves that something positive has to come out of
all the suffering Madeleine and our family have endured. If
highlighting the issues of child abduction (and missing children
in general) and raising money to enable the charity Missing
People to carry out their invaluable work improves this very
real and heartbreaking problem, then every push of those pedals
will be worth it. Always.
Thank you
again for your incredible and very humbling kindness and
support.

Christmas, 2014
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of our supporters.
Once again we
have been amazed this year by the support we continue to have
for our search for Madeleine - and opening the hundreds of
Christmas cards has once again been a truly humbling experience.
The warmth, kindness and commitment to never forget has
precipitated more than a few happy tears! Thank you.
It's hard to
ignore that 'here we are again' feeling at this time of year,
still with no idea where our daughter is or of what's happened.
What we can say is that our resolve to find out, as well as the
hope which has always been present, has not lessened. In
addition it's very apparent that the determination of the
Metropolitan Police remains steadfast, in spite of the
persistent challenges they face.
No matter
where she is, Madeleine will, as always, be very much with us
and our family this Christmas.
Thank you for
holding her in your hearts too.

11 June, 2014 - Statement from Gerry and Kate
We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in
Praia da Luz over the last 8 days with police officers and
support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia
Judicial and the Guarda Nacional Republicana.
We are further encouraged that, despite the intensive searches,
no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our
belief that she could still be alive.
As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all
reasonable lines of enquiry to be followed and it is gratifying
to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over
the coming months with close cooperation of the British and
Portuguese authorities.
We would like to thank all those involved for their efforts and
the members of the public who have come forward with
information.

11 June, 2014 - Update from
Operation Grange
Operation Grange officers working alongside experts in their
field from around the UK, the Policia Judicial and the Guarda
Nacional Republicana today, Wednesday 11 June completed an eight
day period of work searching specific areas of land in Praia da
Luz.
At this time no evidence relating to Madeleine McCann has been
identified. However it has given us an essential understanding
of the activity on and people that have used this piece of land.
This was the first phase of this major investigation which has
been agreed with the Portuguese following the four International
Letters of Request submitted to date. More activity has been
agreed and we expect that to commence shortly. In addition
further requests are being compiled and will be submitted in due
course.
The decision to search the “horse shoe” shaped piece of waste
ground to the west of Praia da Luz and other sites was as a
specific result of the UK’s investigation work to date.
The total area of land searched and surveyed was of
approximately 60,000 sq metres and included all utilities,
drainage channels and derelict buildings. 41 ground anomalies
were identified initially by both aerial survey and ground
analysis which were then investigated fully. These included
three outside of the original area.
This deployment which was the largest ever undertaken by UK
police overseas in a case of this type, highlighted the
effective nature of the assistance given by the Portuguese
authorities, for which the investigation team and family are
very grateful.
The media’s understanding and co-operation following Assistant
Commissioner Rowley’s pre deployment briefing has also been
noted and appreciated.
There is still a substantial amount of work yet to be completed
in the coming weeks and months, which again should be viewed as
no more than normal operational activity in a case of this size
and complexity. This recent work is part of ensuring that all
lines of enquiry are progressed in a systematic manner and
covers just the one hypothesis that she was killed and buried
locally. This is the same as would be done in the UK for a
murder or high risk missing person enquiry. The scientific
support staff involved were there to provide the highest level
of assurance that this area was searched to the highest possible
standards. |
