PJ about to dismiss the English
police’s strongest lead
There are no indications that the little
English girls’ predator abducted Maddie.
The Scotland Yard has asked for aerial
photos of areas in Praia da Luz and
wants to hear eight “persons of
interest”

The Judiciary Police (PJ) is about to
dismiss the lead that led to the
reopening of the process in Portugal and
which is the Scotland Yard’s main
investigation line. There are, so far,
no indications that sustain the
hypothesis of Madeleine having been
abducted by a sexual predator that
attacked British children in the
Algarve.
This is the conviction of the team of
inspectors of the Northern Directory
that reviewed the inquiry, which was
archived in 2008. After pointing out
Euclides Monteiro, the former Ocean Club
worker that is already deceased, as a
likely suspect, the investigators now
believe that the intruder, in the cases
that have been reported to the
authorities, may be British and not
residing in Portugal, given that no new
reports appeared and the ones that have
been publicized target children of that
nationality. “A sexual abuser is someone
who acts compulsively. If he only
attacked during the summer and never
attacked again, that’s because he
doesn’t live here”, said a source that
is close to the process.
Yesterday, the day was marked by an
aerial photographic recognition in Praia
da Luz, with the use of a helicopter
from the Portuguese Air Force that was
paid for by the British authorities, of
the grounds where searches and
excavations are foreseen, and by a work
meeting between both countries’ police,
at the PJ in Faro. One of the locations
where the Scotland Yard wants to employ
sniffer dogs and a georadar is the Rua
25 de Abril, near the Ocean Club and the
church. The area, which was overflown
three times, was under works when
Madeleine disappeared, seven years ago.
If anything suspicious is detected, they
will move forward with excavations.
Apart from the searches that have
already been authorized by the Public
Ministry in Portimão, the rogatory
letters ask for the questioning of eight
persons. Some have worked at the [Ocean
Club] resort and others are not related
to each other.
With all of these actions, everything
leads to believe that the Scotland Yard
does not have only one investigation
line, with the most recent and visible
one pointing at the possibility of the
child having been killed and buried in
Praia da Luz. Questioned, in Faro,
Scotland Yard’s chief inspector, Andy
Redwood, refused to speak to the
journalists.
Tension between the PJ and the
English
The relationship between the police
forces from both countries is tense. The
PJ demanded that the British police
doesn’t share information about the work
in Portugal, under penalty of not
carrying out the requested actions. The
Scotland Yard wrote to the United
Kingdom’s papers asking for
“understanding”. |
