Intention of Scotland
Yard was reported on Sunday night by the
English press.
The English police want to dig in Praia
da Luz, in the Lagos area, to search for
the body of Madeleine McCann, the
British toddler who disappeared seven
years ago.
The intention of Scotland Yard which was
reported last night in the English
press, will only be possible with the
permission of the Portuguese
authorities.
The British plan to use ground-radar
equipment and send to Portugal a team of
investigators specialized in the search
of cadavers.

Update
Extract from
Público newspaper
"(...) "Despite of the English
investigators willingness the steps at
stake must be authorized by the
Portuguese authorities. A PJ source as
assured to Público that the Attorney
General's Office (PGR) has recently
received a letter rogatory in which the
British authorities require several
steps that have not yet been authorized.
The PJ has not confirmed if the request
includes excavations.
In fact, the same source said that some
of the proceedings, given their nature,
should not be approved. The requests
that are authorized can also take place
on the ground with or without the
presence of the English police
investigators, stressed the PJ source.
Público questioned the Attorney
General's Office (PGR) that so far has
not provided any clarification.
The process of inquiry into the
disappearance of British girl was
reopened in Portugal in October last
year, but these steps planned by the
British detectives will occur, possibly,
only within the scope of the
investigation in that country. (...)" .
Latest - Excavation approved by Attorney
General's Office [PGR]. English allowed
to make searches with ground-radar
equipment and excavations only if need
arises under PJ's supervision. |
