Police take
McCann diary, laptop |

PSYCHOLOGISTS will attempt to plot the mind of Kate McCann at the time her
daughter Madeleine went missing after a judge yesterday ordered her personal
diary to be seized.
Detectives claimed the diary shows the mother of the missing four-year-old was
"volatile" in May.
After a month waiting, Judge Pedro Daniel Dos Anjos Frias gave permission for
the diary to be seized.
Legal papers have reportedly been drawn up and signed but not yet handed to
police.
Madeleine went missing on May 3, after her parents Kate and Gerry went to
dinner and left the toddler and her two-year-old twin siblings alone in a
bedroom at the Portuguese town of Praia
da Luz.
The diary has been updated every day since before and after she vanished.
A spokesman for the McCanns said they had yet to hear from local police about
the diary or Mr MCann's laptop, also reportedly on a list of personal goods to
be taken by police.
The spokesman said they would be handed over when necessary.
"Kate and Gerry continue to wait to hear from Portuguese police and are
willing to co-operate with officers," the spokesman said yesterday.
"They have nothing to hide."
He said the computer had largely sat unused "gathering dust" in the
corner of the family apartment in Praia da Luz after being loaned to them by a
local computer shop.
It stayed behind when the couple returned to the UK last month.
"There is nothing incriminating on it because there is nothing
incriminating to find," the spokesman said.
Also reportedly among the legal letters to be handed to British police to enact
is a formal request for the seven guests who dined with the McCanns on May 3 to
be interviewed.
Meanwhile, Mr McCann said he had "ongoing hope" Madeleine would be
found alive.
On his website blog, he played down earlier reports they feared she was dead.
"Contrary to some other reports, Kate and I do not accept that Madeleine
is 'probably' dead," he wrote.
"We know it is a possibility. However, the fact there is no evidence
Madeleine has been seriously harmed gives us ongoing hope that she will be
found alive."
Mr McCann also said he had renewed hope since new case officer Paulo Rebelo was
put in charge of reviewing all evidence.
The Find Madeleine campaign yesterday released new appeal posters to be
published in local newspapers in Spain
and Portugal
in the coming weeks. |
