THE chief suspect in the case of missing Madeleine McCann denied claims
today that he accused her parents of illegally leaving the four-year-old while
they ate at a tapas bar nearby.
Robert Murat is the only named "arguido" or suspect linked to
Madeleine's abduction but has faced no charges.
It emerged today that police had found traces of DNA from a mystery person in
the room from which she was abducted.
Portuguese officials said that the trace did not match the DNA of parents Gerry
and Kate McCann their three children, or property developer Mr Murat.
Mr Murat, who lives just 150 metres from the holiday apartment where the
McCanns were staying, was quoted as saying that "if anyone has broken the
law, then the McCanns have".
He was reported to have said: "Portuguese law says that you cannot leave
young children unattended."
However, his spokesman described the newspaper claims as "absolutely
untrue". |
