Battling on ... Mr McCann addresses MPs Fiona Hanson/PA Wire

THE father of missing Madeleine McCann last night vowed to carry on working with the media in the hope of finding her alive.

Gerry McCann criticised newspapers and TV bulletins for some “sensationalist” reporting.

But he told MPs he and wife Kate did NOT experience any intrusion into their privacy.

He said: “Generally our privacy was respected.”

Mr McCann refused to say if there should be privacy laws and insisted it was vital to defend freedom of speech.

However, he said: “We experienced some of the most untruthful and sensationalist reports in the history of the press.”

He was summoned to the all-party media select committee to discuss press freedom.

Mr McCann accepted he and his wife deliberately worked with the media after the three-year-old vanished in Portugal in 2007, and said they would continue to do so.

He said: “Our natural instinct was to appeal for information and we wanted people to report on that.”

F1 boss Max Mosley stunned MPs by saying fascist leader dad Sir Oswald “overdid it”.

Tory Nigel Evans said: “You may have taken understatement to a new level.”
