after claims Madeleine McCann was

Four police stations, the
anti-kidnapping division,
intelligence personnel and Interpol

a local news outlet.
Miraz Ullah Ali, a researcher,
claimed he spotted Madeleine, who
would now be 12, in the city of
Areguá.

Ali told Color ABC: "My team and I
received the information that Madeleine
arrived in Paraguay a month or two ago
and is living in Areguá in the custody
of a woman."
Commissioner Sanny Amarilla, deputy
chief of one of the police stations
hunting the missing girl, confirmed four
stations in Areguá, intelligence
personnel from the Interior Ministry and
local Interpol divisions are looking for
the young Brit.
He said: "We are investigating
neighbourhoods where there are foreign
citizens, villas, condos, to see if
there is someone with a similar
description that corresponds to the
newspaper clipping .
"This news stretches across the globe,
it is very important. So if they are in
the area we need to find this girl and
return her to her family. |

Kate and Gerry McCann have been made
aware of this latest sighting and have
appealed for anyone with information
about their beloved daughter to come
forward. But they did say they had never
heard of the investigator in question.
A spokesman for the family said: "Kate
and Gerry have been made aware of this
sighting.
"They would encourage anyone who has any
information about Madeleine to get in
contact with officers from Operation
Grange."
Madeleine disappeared from a holiday
apartment in Praia de Luz, Algarve in
2007 when she was just three-years-old.
While her family have never given up
hope of finding her alive, countless
sightings around the world have come to
nothing.
Since her apparent abduction, she has
been 'spotted' in countries including
Portugal, Sweden, Belgium, Morocco and
The Netherlands.
Speaking about this latest sighting
Inspector Luis Ignacio Arias of Interpol
in Paraguay questioned Ali's authority,
saying there is "nothing concrete" about
him, but said Paraguay’s National Police
will launch an investigation into the
supposed detective's story and his
identity. |

Paraguay Interpol blasted the
investigator for not coming to them with
his claims, saying "it should have been
communicated to us".
Sebastian Jara, from Paraguay Interpol,
said: "We do not have anything I can
add, except that we have begun to move
with all our might , but for now we have
nothing. Areguá is a very large and very
populated city and this research caught
us by surprise." |

The Met Police have said they are aware
of the claims and investigating the
situation.
Last month, Madeleine's mum Kate McCann
said she did not belive her daughter was
ever taken out of the Algarve.
She said: "That’s where she last was and
I don’t think she’s been taken a million
miles from there. I’ve always said Praia
da Luz is the place where I feel closest
to her." |
